Guidelines for Public Participation

in Board of Education Meetings

 

Residentsof the Darlington County are encouraged to attend meetings in order tolearn more about the Darlington County School District's programs andoperations. The following procedure is used to establish an orderly wayfor visitors to comment or to present requests or complaints:

Thefirst thirty minutes of the board meeting will be set aside as a timefor hearing from the public, unless otherwise designated. During thistime, any citizen who wishes to speak will be allowed a maximum ofthree (3) minutes during this thirty minutes. Speakers will be allottedtime to address the board on a first-come, first-served basis asrecorded on a log provided prior to the meeting. Speakers' commentswill be received only as board information.

Publicinput should be in the form of suggestions, information, or commentspertaining to the programs, schools, or the school district. Based onlegal advise of our counsel, comments should not be made, eithercomplimentary or critical, naming any students, school employee,administrators, or board members as these matters are personnel mattersthat require an executive session. Speakers' comments will be receivedonly as board information.

Inthe event that you desire to be scheduled on the board meeting agenda,or if you would like to address the board for more than three minutes,please contact the Office of the Superintendent at 398-5100. Speakers'comments will be received only as board information.
