Guidelines for Public Participation

in Board of Education Meetings

Residents of Darlington County are encouraged to attend board meetings in order to learn more about the Darlington County School District's programs and operations.

The following procedure is used to establish an orderly way for visitors to comment or to present requests or complaints:

The first thirty minutes of the board meeting will be set aside as a time for hearing from the public, unless otherwise designated. During this time, any citizen who wishes to speak will be allowed a maximum of three (3) minutes during this thirty minutes. Speakers will be allotted time to address the board on a first-come, first-served basis as recorded on a log provided prior to the meeting. Speakers' comments will be received only as board information.

Public input should be in the form of suggestions, information, or comments pertaining to the programs, schools, or the school district. Based on legal advise of our counsel, comments should not be made, either complimentary or critical, naming any students, school employee, administrators, or board members as these matters are personnel matters that require an executive session. Speakers' comments will be received only as board information.

Speakers' comments will be received only as board information.

In the event that you desire to be scheduled on the board meeting agenda, or if you would like to address the board for more than three minutes, please contact the Office of the Superintendent at 398-5100.

PLEASE NOTE: Due to COVID-19 safety protocols, seating for the monthly board meeting is limited and is on a first-come, first-seated basis. Once the seating is full, the meeting will be closed for additional in-person guests. Overflow guests will be encouraged to follow the live meeting on the school district's website or Facebook page.
