2020-21 Back-To-School Plan

A Letter From Our Superintendent, Dr. Tim Newman

Dear DCSD Family,

Since March 13th, life has changed drastically for all of us.  We have all had to think about many things differently than we did before.  COVID19 has brought death, illness, and fear to many in our state.  And the thought of how to educate our students during these times has been as perplexing as anything we have faced in our generation.

On July 13, the board approved a plan to move forward in these uncertain times. We will start school with students on September 8th in two formats-Virtual Academy and Face-to-Face with an eLearning component.  Teachers will come back two weeksbefore students.  We will take the time between now and then to get everything in place so employees, parents, and students will be safe and feel safe when we return.

There are no right answers, and we may still have to shift due to the science of the virus. We are monitoring the situation and following the guidance of medical professionals at the local, state, and national levels. A lot can change between now and the start of the school year. A lot already has.

I know not everybody may be happy with our current plan, but it is what we believe to be right for our students right now. By preparing for full face-to-face and full virtual, we also prepare for anything in between. Just know we are trying to do the best we can in difficult circumstances for both our students and employees.  My prayers continue to be with you and your families as we continue to work through these uncertain times.  We will continue to grow stronger together.

DCSD Confident,

Dr. Newman

The 2020-2021 Darlington County School District Reentry Plan

The district reentry plan was created with input from staff, teachers, parents, principals, students, medical practitioners, and district officials. Together they  shaped the district’s plan by asking questions, reviewing guidelines, providing feedback, and recommending possible solutions.  The board and administration are appreciative of feedback and support of our community.

This situation is fluid. In some cases,  plans may change to accommodate new guidelines or changing health situations. In other areas, plans are not yet concrete because they are dependent on final registration numbers for both in-person and virtual. The district will continue to update this webpage with information as it becomes available.
