Dr. Nia JohnsonCOLUMBIA, S.C. – The South Carolina Speech Language Hearing Association (SCSHA) recently elected Darlington County School District’s lead speech therapist, Dr. Nia Johnson, as state vice president of membership and outreach during its annual convention.

The convention was held at the Columbia Metropolitan Convention Center with its highest attendance in recent years, according to SCSHA – approximately 1,200 attendees.

“It is a great honor to be elected to the SCSHA Board of Directors and have the opportunity to represent the membership on a state level,” Johnson said. “As vice president for membership and outreach, I hope to work with other board members and the incredible state office team to improve the member experience through strategic thinking and meaningful exchange of ideas about the issues that affect us and our profession. It is important to find more ways to help members feel connected to the board and the association.”

During the convention, SCSHA also elected several other officers and a new president for 2016-17:

• President - Dr. Jacqueline Jones-Brown
• President Elect-Elect – Elizabeth Fogle
• Past President – Dr. Tawana Nash
• VP of Higher Education – Danielle Varnedoe
• VP of Audiology – Dr. Demarcus Bush
• VP of Finance and Leadership – Candice Green
