LAMAR, S.C. – Melinda Brown will be the new associate principal of Lamar Elementary School, according to the Darlington County School District (DCSD). Brown is currently the Coordinating Teacher and Title 1 Coordinator for Spaulding Elementary School in Lamar. She will take over for Garry Flowers, who will be retiring at the end of the school year.
“Ms. Brown has done well in her various roles in the education community over the last few years, and she has built many connections with parents and teachers in Lamar,” said Dr. Tim Newman, DCSD superintendent. “Her skills and experiences will allow her to expand these connections and continue to push our students to greater academic success.”
In addition to her roles as Coordinating Teacher and Title 1 Coordinator, Brown has taught third grade and fifth grade. She graduated from Coker College with a Bachelor of Arts in Elementary Education. She went on to attend Walden University where she graduated with a Master of Science and an Education Specialist degree in Educational Leadership and Administration. She is a National Board Certified teacher in Early Childhood Middle Literacy, a TAP Mentor Teacher, and a TAP Master Teacher. She holds a gifted and talented endorsement and a “Read to Succeed” endorsement.
The associate principalship is a hybrid position of principal and assistant principal created because Lamar Elementary School will be combined with Spaulding Elementary School within two years. Brown, as leader of Lamar Elementary School, will work closely with the leader of Spaulding Elementary School during this transition period.
Brown assumes her leadership duties as associate principal of Lamar Elementary School on July 1, 2018.
