Hartsville High School introduces Jamie Horton as new athletics director

Jamie HortonHARTSVILLE, S.C. – Hartsville High School (HHS) officially announced Tuesday that Jamie Horton will serve as the school’s new athletics director. The introduction came during a press conference held in the HHS Arena.

Horton served as the school’s assistant athletic director in 2017-18.

HHS Principal Corey Lewis said he believes Horton will transition to her new role with success.

“Coach Horton has done an outstanding job as a coach and as a teacher since arriving at Hartsville High School,” Lewis said. "I am confident that she is capable of providing the level of leadership needed to maintain our school's position as one of the top athletic programs in the state.”

Her coaching experience includes two softball state championships at HHS, including one as head coach.

Horton was named the 2015-16 Hartsville High School Teacher of the Year and, subsequently, the Darlington County School District Teacher of the Year. She also serves on the district’s Teacher Forum.

She graduated from the Darlington County School District’s Leadership Academy in 2016-17. Horton has taught and coached in the Darlington County School District since 2010. She most recently taught U.S. History at HHS.

She holds a Master of Education in Educational Leadership from Arkansas State University and a Bachelor of Arts in History from Coker College. Horton played softball at Coker College from 2005-2009.
