Darlington County School District’s 2018 Elementary Honor Choir resounds in annual program
HARTSVILLE, S.C. – Eighty-seven talented student-musicians from the Darlington County School District (DCSD) performed in the Fourth Annual District Elementary Honor Choir program Nov. 15. Family and friends packed the Hartsville Middle School auditorium for the performance.
The vocalists represented the schools of Brockington Elementary Magnet School, Brunson-Dargan Elementary School, Carolina Elementary School, North Hartsville Elementary School, Rosenwald Elementary/Middle School, Spaulding Elementary School, St. John’s Elementary School and West Hartsville Elementary School.
Kim Roberts, Hartsville Middle’s choral director, served as the choir’s clinician.
Dr. Tim Newman, DCSD superintendent, spoke to the crowd following the performance and later applauded all involved for their hard work.
“These students, under the direction of Kim Roberts and their teachers, displayed the high-caliber talent we have in Darlington County School District. It was outstanding,” Newman said. “We are grateful to be able to provide this type of enriched instruction to our students, all while having fun in front of their communities. We greatly appreciate all of the parents, grandparents, family members and friends that support these talented kids who positively represent Darlington County School District.”
Marisa Johnson, DCSD’s coordinator of Arts and Innovative Programs, said the program is an excellent way for the students to gain enhanced musical instruction.
“This annual event provides the opportunity for our elementary schools’ music departments to combine and work with a middle school music teacher on advanced music concepts and techniques,” Johnson said. “Students from across our district are able to learn new music together and celebrate the joy of singing.”
