Quinetta ButerbaughDARLINGTON, S.C. – Quinetta Buterbaugh will lead an exciting new program in Darlington County School District (DCSD) focused on creating work-based opportunities for students with local businesses. The Darlington County Board of Education approved Buterbaugh’s hire Monday evening during its monthly meeting.

As business engagement coordinator, Buterbaugh will be tasked with creating and strengthening relationships with local employers in order to empower DCSD students through real-world job experiences. These opportunities will include internships and apprenticeships.

“Mrs. Buterbaugh’s expertise in workforce initiatives, her established relationships with decision-makers in many local businesses, and her demonstrated success working with our students and schools make her the ideal person to develop and build this critical program,” said Dr. Tim Newman, DCSD superintendent.

Newman said preparing students to enter the workforce after graduation is a critical mission of the district.

“When our students walk across the stage with their diplomas in hand, we want them to have options and opportunities,” Newman said. “More than that, we want them to have the skills and experience they need to build a solid future. Our business and industries need workforce-ready workers. By creating opportunities for our students to work in and with our local business community, we create a stronger workforce and provide more opportunities for our students.”

Buterbaugh brings a wealth of experience, having spent the past four years as president of the Greater Hartsville Chamber of Commerce. Prior to her work with the chamber, she served as an adjunct professor at Florence-Darlington Technical College’s Hartsville campus and worked as a public relations assistant at Duke Energy in Florence. Additionally, Buterbaugh has served on numerous boards and committees, including the Carolinas Association of Chamber of Commerce Executives, Main Street Hartsville Advisory Board, Darlington County Progress, Hartsville Rotary Club, Darlington County Institute of Technology Advisory Board and Greater Darlington Chamber of Commerce. She is a 2013 graduate of Leadership Hartsville.

“I’m grateful for the opportunity that Dr. Newman and the Board have given me to help shape the workforce development efforts in our county through work-based experiences for our students,” Buterbaugh said. “I’ve spent the last few years working closely with the business community, and I’m looking forward to leveraging those strong partnerships to create opportunities for our students. We have amazing companies in Darlington County and the region that are eager to work with our students. It’s an excellent challenge, and I am eager to get to work.”

She holds a Bachelor of Science in Business Communications from the University of Phoenix and an associate degree in Specialized Business from Cambria-Rowe Business College. She will complete a Master of Science in Management and Leadership from Coker College next month. She also holds an Institute for Organization Management certification from the United States Chamber of Commerce.
