LAMAR, S.C. – Lamar High School felt the community support for its students recently after local farmer Jason Tyner garnered a $2,500 grant from the America’s Farmers Grow Communities program and donated it to the school.
The donation will support extracurricular services provided by Lamar High School Athletics.
“Growing up in Lamar I remember the family atmosphere, discipline and working for a greater goal,” Tyner said. “Encouraging kids to dream big is always important. Giving back to the community that influenced my childhood only seems appropriate. The ripple effect of the people of Lamar contributing to our kids is why they are so successful today.”
Sponsored by the Monsanto Fund, a philanthropic arm of Bayer, the America’s Farmers Grow Communities program provides farmers the opportunity to support and give back to the nonprofit organizations they care about in their communities.
“On behalf of Lamar High School Athletics, I would like to thank Mr. Jason Tyner for his continued support,” said Kathy Gainey, Lamar High School’s principal. “This money will help fund athletic programs for our student-athletes that teach many valuable lessons, including team work, perseverance and good sportsmanship. His support is greatly appreciated.”
Celebrating its 10th year, America’s Farmers Grow Communities has awarded more than $33 million to over 8,000 nonprofits across rural America.
