DARLINGTON, S.C. – Registration for 4-year-old kindergarten (4K) and 5-year-old kindergarten (5K) for the 2019-20 school year will be held on March 29 at six locations across the county.
New this year, students registering for 4K will also be able to take their required placement test during registration, which will save parents time.
Registration at every location will be held March 29 from 8 a.m. until 3 p.m.
• For the Darlington area, registration will be held at J.L. Cain Elementary, Pate Elementary and St. John’s Elementary schools.
• For the Hartsville area, registration will be held at Southside Early Childhood Center.
• For the Society Hill area, registration will be held at Rosenwald Elementary/Middle School.
• For the Lamar area, registration will be held at Lamar Elementary School.
Parents registering a child for 4K are asked to bring their child to registration so that a required placement test can be completed. The test is known as the Developmental Indicator for the Assessment of Learning, Fourth Edition (DIAL-4). The district hopes this new initiative will save time and a return trip for parents. All students registering for 4K are required to take the DIAL-4.
If a parent is unable to bring their child to 4K registration a later testing date will be arranged by the school.
In order to register a child for 4K, the child must be four years old on or before Sept. 1, 2019. A child must turn five years old on or before Sept. 1, 2019, in order to register for 5K.
The materials needed to register a child include:
• Proof of residency
o A tax notice, a landline telephone bill, a bill for cable service that is connected to the residence or a utility bill such as water, gas and electric will be accepted.
o A cellphone bill and/or a driver’s license cannot be used as proof of residency.
• Immunization Record
• Birth Certificate
• (For 4K Only) Proof of income/S.C. Healthy Connection Medicaid Card
A registration slot for 4K will not be reserved for a child without documented proof of residency and proof of income. Available slots are limited and preference is given to those students whose family meets state income requirements.
