Inaugural Military Enlistment Recognition Ceremony honors students entering U.S. Armed Forces

DARLINGTON, S.C. – The Darlington County School District held the inaugural Enlistment Recognition Ceremony on May 14, 2019, to honor students who have joined various branches of the U.S. Armed Forces.
The program recognized 22 students from across the district who will be serving in the Air Force, Army, Marine Corps, National Guard and Navy.
Those students are:
• Tzion Jones, Hartsville High School – Air Force
• Ckearra Berry-Jackson, Hartsville High School – Army
• Ariel Burch, Darlington High School – Army
• Toya Gainey, Lamar High School – Army
• Sonny Mack, Hartsville High School – Army
• Kenneth Matlock, Hartsville High School – Army
• Daniel Montgomery, Hartsville High School – Army
• Bryant Moses, Darlington High School – Army
• Kalik Sam, Hartsville High School – Army
• Shaniyah Singleton, Lamar High School – Army
• Isabella Timmons, Hartsville High School – Army
• John Bell, Lamar High School – Marine Corps
• Tevin Fox, Lamar High School – Marine Corps
• Myrick Holloman, Hartsville High School – Marine Corps
• John Michael Neal, Darlington High School – Marine Corps
• LaTe’yah Young, Hartsville High School – Marine Corps
• Jordan Bradshaw, Mayo High School for Math, Science and Technology – National Guard
• Malike Cooper, Mayo High School for Math, Science and Technology – National Guard
• Dequincy Ervin-Love, Hartsville High School – National Guard
• Abreanna Jett, Darlington High School – Navy
• Meosha Thomas, Darlington High School – Navy
• Briana Wilson, Mayo High School for Math, Science and Technology – Navy
The event was held inside the Mayo High School for Math, Science and Technology’s Conference Center. DCSD Superintendent Dr. Tim Newman welcomed the crowd of family members, friends, military personnel and school district officials.
Connell Delaine, a retired U.S. Army Sergeant Major and member of the Darlington County Board of Education, led the Pledge of Allegiance and the National Anthem.
Dr. Willie E. “Bill” Boyd Sr. gave the keynote address. Boyd is a former combat infantryman who served in Vietnam. He also served the Darlington County School District for more than 50 years, most recently as interim superintendent, before his retirement.
After the recognitions, Larry C. Boyd Sr., a retired U.S. Army colonel and the senior Army instructor at Darlington High School, gave the students their Oaths of Enlistment.
