The application period for the Darlington County Virtual Academy is now open!
Parents in Darlington County may now apply for their child to attend the Darlington County Virtual Academy (DCVA) for the 2021-2022 school year. Applications are available online by clicking the link at the top of this page and will be accepted May 18 - June 1, 2021. This is the only application period for the 2021-2022 school year.
The Darlington County Virtual Academy was created in 2020 to serve students in an online environment during the pandemic. For 2021-2022, the DCVA program has been revised and updated, striving to continue to offer the highest quality virtual education while also ensuring its students are prepared for the online rigor.
In order to be admitted to the school for the 2021-2022 school year, students must meet all stated requirements, submit an application, and commit to remaining at the school for the entire school year.
DCVA Requirements
-- Participation is in DCVA, a year-long commitment for all students for the 21-22 school year.
-- Students that were not successful or were truant for the 2020-21 school year are ineligible to participate in DCVA for the 2021-22 school year.
-- Specific criteria to enroll in DCVA are based on the previous school year’s performance. Students must be in good standing in their academics and attendance. Students must be promoted to the next grade to be considered for enrollment.
-- Students must have reliable internet access. High-speed internet is highly recommended as this provides the most reliable connection and best quality for video and streamed content.
-- Students will need to attend their daily scheduled classes online as attendance will be taken. Students may complete assignments independently at their own pace but must maintain appropriate progress and meet all deadlines.
-- Elementary and middle school students should have an in-home learning coach (parent/guardian/adult supervisor) who can assist students with meeting academic goals and provide level 1 technology support.
The district anticipates offering virtual education in grades K-12 for the 2021-2022 school year. However, program restrictions may apply. All elementary and middle school core courses will be offered, but related arts courses will be limited.
At this time, the DCVA anticipates offering a high school curriculum; however, the actual enrollment numbers will be the determining factor. High school students interested in attending the DCVA should enroll to secure their place. The DCVA high school program will offer all required courses for graduation, but may not offer all elective courses or courses that do not do well in a virtual environment. DCVA students may enroll in the Darlington County Institute of Technology (DCIT). All DCIT courses are taught in-person, and transportation is not provided.
