Child Holding a MagnetDARLINGTON, S.C. – Is your child interested in STEM, Early College or international studies? Do they enjoy learning how to create apps, solving medical mysteries, or discovering their own identity in learning and development? If the answer is yes to any of these questions, a DCSD magnet program may be for you!

The Darlington County School District (DCSD) announced this week that the 2023-24 Innovative Programs Magnet Application will be open from Jan. 3, 2023, through Jan. 27, 2023, at 4:30 p.m. Students and families interested in one of the DCSD’s innovative magnet programs may apply online at https://sites.google.com/darlington.k12.sc.us/arts-innovative-programs/district-innovative-programs-magnet-gt?pli=1.

The innovative magnet programs in DCSD available for 2023-2024 enrollment are:

--Darlington County Virtual Academy (DCVA 1st-12th)
--Darlington High School Early College Honors Program (9th-12th)
--Hartsville High School International Baccalaureate Programme (9th-12th)
--Lamar High School Institute of Biomedical Innovation (rising 9th ONLY)
--Mayo High School for Math, Science, and Technology (9th-12th)
--Montessori Magnet Program at Bay Road Elementary School (3K-3rd)

Applicants will need a valid email address because all correspondences will be sent to that address. For students applying to the traditional high school magnet programs – not DCVA, an essay portion is required in order to complete the application process. It is recommended that you draft your essay first before starting the application and then come back to complete the online application.

Students zoned for Brockington Elementary, Darlington Middle, and Hartsville Middle who wish to participate in those schools’ immersion programs should check the school website or call the school for specific information. Students zoned for Thornwell School of the Arts will NOT be required to apply.

If a parent should want their child to attend any school in the district that is outside of their assigned zone, the parent will need to make that request through the Expanded Choice program in February.
Please do not hesitate to apply today.

The deadline to submit an online magnet application is January 27 by 4:30 pm.
