Mayo High SchoolDARLINGTON, S.C. – Mayo High School for Math, Science and Technology is a one of 12 finalists for the Palmetto’s Finest Schools Awards, the South Carolina Association of School Administrators (SCASA) announced this week.

SCASA named the finalists after extensive evaluations by fellow educators and previous Palmetto’s Finest winners. The application process included elements on student achievement, instructional programs, professional learning communities and school culture.

“We are honored to be among the 12 Palmetto Finest Schools selected this year,” said Arlene Wallace, principal of Mayo High School. “Our motto has always been, ‘Hard work pays off.’ Our students, staff and parents work together every year to ensure that this happens. Last fall, 27 South Carolina schools submitted 20-page applications and received an onsite examination visit by a review committee. The finalists are now undergoing a second onsite evaluation.

The finalist schools will gather in their local communities on March 20 at 1:45 p.m. to learn which have won the top honors. The announcement will be streamed live to each of the finalist schools.
