Hartsville Facility Proposal

In Hartsville, the district wants to build a new Hartsville High School that gives students and staff a safer, more secure and more modern learning environment. The current high school is made up of 17 separate buildings. This creates safety concerns, makes the campus difficult to maintain, and requires students to go outside in the weather, including rain, when changing classes. The campus also has ongoing flooding concerns that affect daily operations and long-term maintenance.

The proposed new school would combine the many buildings into one modern educational facility that would better support safety, instruction, student activities and the day-to-day needs of students and staff. The school will keep its Hartsville High School name, serving the same students, families and community with the same Red Fox pride.

Based on community feedback, the district is looking at locations other than the Kelleytown property. An ideal site would include 90 to 120 acres to support the school, parking, stormwater management and future expansion. To remain fiscally responsible, the existing stadium and baseball facilities will remain at their current location in Kelleytown. While no land purchase is required before a referendum, the district will continue evaluating potential sites and options.

The goal is to give Hartsville students a school that is safer, easier to maintain and better prepared to serve the community for generations to come.
