Board of Education releases superintendent evaluation

DARLINGTON, SC – At its November monthly meeting, the Darlington County Board of Education conducted its annual evaluation of Darlington County School District (DCSD) superintendent Dr. Tim Newman. Newman met or exceeded district expectations overall on his evaluation for the 2023-2024 school year.

"We are pleased with the advancements the Darlington County School District continues to make under Dr. Newman's leadership," said Wanda Hassler, chairman of the Darlington County Board of Education. "The positive impact on student success, staff development, community engagement, and operational efficiency speaks to the dedication and hard work of our entire district team. Through the Ascend and Key to Career program, we are strengthening our partnership with community and business leaders to enhance workforce development. We look forward to continuing the momentum, ensuring every student and staff member can thrive in a supportive and empowering environment."

Based on the results of Newman's evaluation, the Board approved a one-year extension to his contract, extending it through June 2027. The board also gave him a three-percent salary increase and an annual step increase.

"I greatly appreciate the School Board's trust and support, and our district community for your partnership," Newman said. "This feedback reflects the hard work and commitment of our entire team and highlights our shared vision for our district. It also serves as a reminder of the continued work ahead to address the evolving needs of our students, staff, families, and community. I am committed to building on this momentum, strengthening our programs, and working collaboratively to ensure our schools remain places that educate, empower and prepare all. We are dedicated to fostering an environment where every student can achieve academic excellence and each staff member feels valued and supported. Together, I am confident that we can achieve even greater success in the years to come."
