Adult Education Admission Procedures
2023-2024
The following procedures outline the Darlington County Adult Education admissions process for students ages sixteen and older. No student under the age of sixteen may be considered for Adult Education services.
There are four distinct paths of entry into the Adult Education program:

Entry by adults (17 and older)

Individuals ages seventeen and older may request entry into the program by participating in a regularly scheduled registration session.

No prior recommendation or permission is required.

If the student attended a Darlington County high school within the last two years, Adult Ed staff will verify that an official withdrawal form was completed upon exit.

Recommendation for entry into the program will be made by Adult Ed staff and/or an IEP team, when applicable. Final approval for students under the age of 18 will be determined by the Darlington County School Board.

Voluntary entry by in-district sixteen year-olds

Sixteen years students who wish to be considered for admission into Adult Ed must first obtain permission from both their parent or guardian and the principal of the last school they attended or their home school.

The student, parent, and principal should meet to discuss all available options.

If it is determined that Adult Ed would be the most suitable option for the student, the Adult Ed Youth Application should be completed in full by both the parent and the school principal or designee and delivered to Adult Ed office. The application packet includes an official withdrawal form. Incomplete applications will not be accepted.

Upon receipt of the application, Adult Ed staff will contact the parent/student to schedule an intake interview.

Recommended entry of in-district sixteen year-olds

Sixteen year-old students may be recommended for Adult Ed services in lieu of expulsion by the Darlington County School District Hearing Officer.

If Adult Ed is recommended by the Hearing Office, the Adult Ed Youth Application should be completed in full by both the parent and the school principal or designee and delivered to the Adult Ed office. The application includes an official withdrawal form. Incomplete applications will not be accepted.

Upon receipt of the application, Adult Ed staff will contact the parent/student to schedule an intake interview.

Sixteen year-old students coming into Darlington County from another school district may be recommended for Adult Ed services by the Darlington County School District Hearing Officer.
