Transfer for Children of Employees
DEADLINE TO APPLY: February 28, 2023
Children of DCSD employees will be allowed to attend school in the school attendance zone in which the parent is employed as long, as the transfers do not contribute to a significant change in the racial balance of the schools. The student will attend the school in which the parent works or a school in the attendance zone in which the parent works if the grade needed by the student is not available in the parent's school.
Formal applications will be available online (see link in menu on left) beginning February 6, 2023, and must be completed by February 28, 2023, for all students. The application is approved for ONE YEAR ONLY and must be submitted annually. Only applications completed by the cut-off date will be considered. If employees are moved to another school or hired after this date, consideration may be given for a new request if space is available.
Approved Employee Child Transfer requests will be emailed to applicants on June 1, 2023. Children of employees who live out of the district and have left the employment of the district may return to the school which they normally would attend in their home district.
Transportation for transferred students is the responsibility of the parent. It is a privilege to attend a school outside of your residential zone. Students who exhibit poor behavior, excessive tardiness/absences, and/or academic issues may be sent back to their zoned school.
The superintendent will recommend transfers to the Board based on the availability of personnel and space. The district reserves the right to make the specific school assignment.
Requirements for Out-of-District Transfers
Employees who do not live in Darlington County may request a transfer to the Darlington County School District for their children if a release form from their home district is submitted to the superintendent and the student must be in good behavioral and financial standing with the district from which he or she is transferring. No out-of-county proviso payment is required for children of employees.
