Gavin's Law
In 2014, South Carolina passed Erin's Law (Act 293) to ensure that all students, from pre-kindergarten through high school, receive education on how to protect themselves from sexual assault and how to report such incidents.
In 2023, South Carolina introduced Gavin's Law (Act 54), which makes sexual extortion (blackmail using explicit images or videos) a crime. The law requires South Carolina school districts to work with the State Department of Education, the South Carolina Law Enforcement Division, and the Attorney General's office to implement a policy to educate and notify students of the provisions of Gavin's Law.
